午後５時半から、「ラッシュ・アワー・ブルーズ」というジャズを聴きに行った。
名前の通り、ラッシュアワーの渋滞に巻き込まれたくない会社員がターゲットらしい。
バーミンガム・シンフォニー・ホールで毎週金曜日やっているのだが、僕は今日が始めて。
シンフォニー・ホールでといっても、このジャズは大きなホール内ではなく、玄関入り口付近で
極めてインフォーマルに演奏する。誰でも無料で聴け、近くのバーで買った飲み物を手に、談話しながら聴く。
毎週違うバンドが来るのだが、今回はサックスとドラムと怪しいD.J．の３人。
ドラマーがいきなり踊りだしたのにはウケた。
ジーンズを穿いたままあれだけ激しく踊るんだから、相当レーニングを積んだに違いない。
個人的にはなかなか良かったと思ったが、ジューディス曰く、「音楽が生演奏じゃないからダメ」だったらしい。
来週また行こうかな。
Friday
Went to a jaz concert called "Rush Hour Blues" held at the Birmingham Symphony Hall.
According to the leaflet, this concert is targeted at the "commuters" who don't want to get stranded in the traffic.
They do it evey friday from half past five; today was my first time.
It was quite informal being held in the entrance hall of the building. And it was free.
Judith said the band changes every week and this today's was by three rather contrasting people;
a jazzy looking gentleman playing saxophone, a wacky D.J. and a wakier drummer.
This drummer suddenly started dancing freakishly which was quite good.
He must have trained a lot, for dancing in that way wearing jeans is no mean feat.
Overall, I thought it was good, but the others didn't like it much because they were using recorded songs.
I might go next week again.
