７月からインターンをやる会社のオリエンテーションに行って来た。
Basingstokeまでは、バーミンガムから電車で南に約２時間。
８時１０分過ぎに駅に到着し、集合時間の９時１５分まで一時間ほどあったので
同じアストン大学のチェンとコスタでお茶した。
９時過ぎに到着。しばらくしてから、現在インターンをやっているアンデュリューがニヤニヤと近寄ってきた。
「君達、場所間違ってるよ」
ガビチョーン！
２月にインタビューを受けた時の場所と同じ場所だとすっかり思い込んでいた。
実際は、ここから車で１０分程の、「メインサイト」だったのだ。
「すみません、遅刻します」と人事のエリーに電話を入れると
「世界の終わりじゃないから大丈夫よ！心配しないで！」と慰めの返事をもらった。
第一印象が大事だから遅刻だけはしないように４時４０分に起きたのに、３０分も遅刻してしまった、最悪！
午前は、過去・現在にインターンをやった社員のプレゼン。
午後から、チェンと僕は先ほどいた場所に戻る。
マネージャーのキャンディーに会い、アンデュリューが建物の中を案内してくれた。
何よりも社員食堂がよかったなあ。自分ですきな野菜をボールに取って、好きな肉、調味料を選んで
目の前で、シェフがフライパンで焼いてくれる。
どのソースを掛けるか分からなかったので悩んでいると
「地中海ミックスを作ってやるよ」とかいって、チリを入れまくってもらった。
このボリュームで、£2.80だからおったまげた。美味かったあ。
とても美味しい一日でした。
Went to Basingstoke to attend the 'familialisation day' of the company that 'm doing placement for.
It's a 2 hour ride from Birmingham to Basingstoke.
Arrived at the station ten past eight and since there was more than an hour till it starts,
had a cup of tea with Chen, another Aston Student, at Costa.
Arrived at the company at around nine, then having waited at the reception for a while thinking 'where's the others?',
Andrew, an existing placement student, came walking towards us, grinning.
'Guys, I think you're in a wrong place'
I was like, oops!
I thought it's gonna be the same place as where I had interviews in Feb, but it was actually at the main site, 10 min ride away from here.
I called Ellie the HR manager saying that we're going to be late and that we're sorry, then she goes
'Don't worry! It's not the end of the world!' which reassured me a lot.
But damn, fearing what you call the 'first impression error',
I woke up at 4:40 this morning only not to be late, but I was 30 min late! What an impression I gave them.
In the morning, there were several presentation by past/present placement students.
Then me and Chen moved back to the site where we were this morning, to see our managers.
Andrew took us around the company, oh how I loved the cafeteria.
I had this amazing thing in which you first take whatever salad you want in a bowl,
then give it to the chef, tell him what meat and seasoning I want in it and he'll fry them right infront of you.
When I was agonising over which dressing to put on, the chef goes
'I'll give you a mediterranean mix', that killed me, literally, coz he put all the spicy chilly inside.
Yeah, the taste was awesome and it was only £2.80!
It sure was a delicious day.
