朝は北京動物園に行く。
北京動物園の目玉はやはりパンダだ。
パンダを見るなら朝一番が良いと「地球の歩き方《に載っていたので、
８時半には到着した。
パンダは中国後で「大熊猫《と書くらしい。
熊なんだか、猫なんだかはっきりしない吊前だ。
We went to the Beijing Zoo in the morning.
Since our guidebook recommended that in order to see
the Giant Pandas, it's better to go early,
so we arrived at 8:30.
Giant Pandas are written in Chinese as to mean "Giant Bear Cat".
Perhaps the very first person who saw a panda
wasn't sure whether it's a bear or a cat (it looks more like a bear to me though...).
パンダは「大熊猫館《という大きな施設に入っているのだが、
行くと丁度掃除をしていて、中にはいなかった。
To see the Pandas, we headed towards the Panda House.
When we arrived, the cleaning was just taking place,
so the cage was empty.
外に回ってみると、パンダ用の広い敷地があった。
We walked around to the outside,
and saw a large playing field for Pandas.
端のほうに、どかっと岩に腰を掛けて、
竹をひたすら食べているパンダを発見。
うーむ、なんとも可愛い。
Ah ha! we found one sitting by the side,
using a rock as a sofa.
He was eating bamboos like made.
He was so cute.
大熊猫館の前で一枚。
この北京動物園にはパンダが１０匹以上いるらしいが、
今日お目にかかれたのは、２匹だけ。
They say there are more than ten pandas here,
but today we could only see two.
パンダ館の横には、トキとキンシコウ檻があった。
両方ともとても珍しい動物だが、
狭い檻の中に閉じ込められており、
とても可愛そうだった。
Right next to the Panda house,
there was a cage for Japanese crested ibis and
golden snub-nosed monkey, both are endangered animals.
But despite their endangered status,
the cages they were put in were small and shabby,
which was really sad.
池が凍っていた。
The pond was frozen.
「獅虎山《という場所には、
文字通り虎とライオンがいた。
We saw tigers and lions here.
大きな虎の彫刻の前で一枚。
しかしこの動物園、
あまりよい管理がなされているとはいえなかった。
昨日の故宮もそうだが、
中国は施設の管理が極めてお粗末だ。
高層ビルにしても、建てるだけ建てて、
維持管理が出来ていないため、
どれも廃れて見える。
今日はとにかく寒くて、
長くは外にいられなかったので、１０時前には動物園を後にする。
Pandas were cute,
but I got an impression that this zoo is not very well managed.
The same can be said to yesterday's Palace Museum -
the Chinese facilities, whether it be public or commercial,
are all poorly, if not awfully, managed.
They all look awfully old, even though they're recently built.
Since it was unbearably cold today,
we left the zoo at around 10.
北京動物園から地下鉄に乗り、
フートンという、古い街並みの残った場所を軽く散策する。
所謂「ニーハオトイレ《もこのあたりには残っていた。
We got on the subway to the "Huton" area,
where the old Chinese style houses are remaining.
Here, we found the so colled "Nihao Toilets (toilets with no doors)".
その足で、昨日弟がDVDをたくさん購入したショッピング・モールに再び訪れる。
弟は今日も６枚ほど買っていた。
それにしても中国では、
（当たり前なのだが）全てが漢字表記で、
中には面白いものがある。
たとえば、ターミネーターは「終結者《。
From Huton district,
we walked to Shidan, to the same shopping mall we went yesterday.
My brother bought six more DVDs here.
You know, that in China,
everything is written in Chinese characters,
including the western film titles.
ジュラッシックパークは、「ジュラ紀公園《。
サウンドオブミュージックは、「音楽の声《。
極め付けにミッキーマウスは、「米奇《だ。
夕方、
父のマンションから歩いて１０分ほど行った所にある、
偽物のブランド品が売っている「秀水《というデパートに行く。
結構有吊な観光スポットになっているらしく、
デパート前には観光バスが２０台近く停まっていた。
In the evening,
we went to a famous department store,
where they sell fake brand goods.
It's quite a tourist spot;
there were more than 20 buses parked in front of the store.
入ると、"shop with confidence"（自信を持ってお買いものしてください）と
書かれた看板が掲げてあるが、
自信を持とうが持ちまいが、
とにかく売られているものは十中八九、偽物だ。
でも、欧米人も以外とバッグやら何やらを買っていた。
As you go inside, you come across the sign "shop with confidence".
Well, whether you shop with confidence or not,
they say almost all the stuffs sold here are fake.
But many tourists were buying stuffs,
I guess for fun.
夜は四川料理を食べた。
坦々麺がとにかく辛かったが、
なかなかうまかった。
We had Sichuan food for dinner.
This noodle was extremely hot,
but it was tasty.
