Came to Exeter to meet my friend Joe.
Took me about 4 and a half hours from Birmingham by bus.
It went quick though, as I was sleeping all the way.
As I arrived, Joe showed me around the city of Exeter.
It was so nice to escape from the busyness of Birmingham and
especially, from its horrid
accent.
The first place we visited was the Exeter Cathedral which was right in
the centre of the City.
Inside, it had an impressive ceiling and a huge pipe organ in the
middle.
Joe's house was about ten minutes away by bus.
There was nobody in the house when I arrived, but Birty the cat and
lots of ducks greeted me kindly.
After resting for a while having a cinnamon tea, we decided to visit
Joe's mother's workshop.
Margaret is an artist; she does water paintings and makes loads of
clay objects.
Her workshop was by the beautiful canal, 15 minutes walk from the house.
Luke, Joe's brother, was already there, making some fish-like object
with clay.
They let me try some as well. Bit nervous was I, as I haven't even
touched a clay since high-school.
I tried my best to create a Japanese Tengu, but ended up as a grotesque
Pinocchio.
Luke joined us and we decided to go to the sea, though it was already
past 4.
I was so excited, because I haven't seen the sea since I came to
Britain.
We took the train from Exeter St. David's station and after about 20
minutes,
the English Channel appeared thorough the train window !
Amazed I was!
It only took us little over 20 minutes to arrive at Dawlish, a
beautiful town by the sea.
On arriving, Joe and Luke took me to an ice-cream shop which they said
is very good
We arrived just before the store close down and I bought an ice-cream
as two insisted.
It had some 'clotted cream' as a topping and surely, was very very
scrumptious.
After that, went to the beach.
Being the middle of July, it must be warm enough in Japan to swim, but
this one looked rather cold.
But clouds started to move away showing some blue sky, I was moved by
the beautiful scenery.
Joe and Luke pointed at a big rock far in the distance and told me that
it has some caves in it.
So we went,
walking forever towards this massive rock.
We must have walked for nearly 30 minutes, when the rock started to
appear in its real size.
Unexpectedly, the caves were huge inside, deep enough to hide away any
light from the outside.
But it was grotesque with the jelly stuff scattered around on the
ground, so
we retreated !
Took a photo with Luke outside the rock for conquering the caves.
And afterwards, climbed up this big rock and Luke took two photos of me
and Joe, for conquering the rock itself!
When we came back, it was nearly 8'oclock, but I was warmly welcomed
by the family.
Joe prepared me some meal - squishy rice with chilly.
It was such an exciting day; can't stop grinning as I reminisce about
this day.
