今日は太陽が東に沈んだ。
エープリル・フール！
新たな会計年度に入り、新聞も新しい税率やら、会計ルールの変化やらの記事が目立つ。
新聞と言えば、イギリスに来てから改めて、日本の経済大国としての凄さが分かった
授業でも、しょっちゅう日本企業のことが出てくる。
トヨタのジャスト・イン･タイム方式やら、「Kaizen」とかいいう言葉が教科書の至るところに散りばめられている。
新聞を読んでいても、日本の記事は多い。
ライブ・ドアの堀江社長のことが、先週のファイナンシャル・タイムズの社説に大きく取り上げられていたし、
ソニーの新社長のことも、一面記事になっていた。
でも、イギリスにいるから日本のことが客観的に分かるのだったら、他の国のことも分かるはずだ。
中東の和平問題だとか、アフリカの貧困・内戦問題だとか
自分はなんて無知・無関心なんだろうって
新聞やテレビを読みながら、たまに嫌気が差します。
イースター休暇もあと一週間。本腰入れて勉強しなくちゃ。

The sun set in the east today, I couldn't believe my own eyes!
April fools, haha.
Today being the start of the new financial year,
I saw a lot of articles about changes in the tax rates and accounting rules and all that.
Speaking about the newspaper, there's a lot of articles about Japan these days.
About the new CEO of Sony and FT wrote a commentary about the CEO of Livedoor last week.
Being in UK, I read and hear many things about Japan, giving me the objective view about my home country.
But maybe that's a nonsense.
Because if being in UK enables me to learn about Japan objectively, it should do the same for other countries as well.
Reading about the dispute in the Middle East and about the poverty and civil war in Africa and stuff,
I sometimes get disappointed of myself, about how indifferent and ignorant I am.
Only a week left of this Easter holiday, I really should start studying harder.
