とても綺麗な一日だった
朝教会に行く
今日は礼拝堂のヒーターが壊れていたので、いつも紅茶をしている隣のホールで礼拝をもった。
牧師先生のニコラがこんなことを言っていた
「昔、イギリスのクリスチャン団体がライブ・コンサートを開き、１４９億ポンドの寄付金を集めたことがあります。
１４９億ってのは凄いお金ですが、その団体がアフリカ政府にそれを持っていくと、
『１４９億ポンドとは、とても有難いお金です。が、私達は一週間に同じだけのお金を利子としてあなたの国に支払っているのですよ』」
それで、今イギリスの大蔵大臣ゴードン・ブラウンが、発展途上国の負債を帳消しにするよう働きかけている。
それが決まるのが、こんどのG8首脳会議らしい。
礼拝中、ブレア首相を説得するために、みなが働きかけの手紙にサインした。
今日はなんだかすっごく考えさせられた。
Was a beautiful day today
Went to church in the morning.
The heater was broken in the chapel, so held a service in the hall where we usually have tea and coffee.
Pastor Nichola said something today...
"Some years ago, a British Christian organisation held a live charity concert and raised 149 million pounds.
149 pounds is an awful lot of money, but when they brought it to the African government for donation they said
'Thank you for this 149 pounds, but we pay just the same amount each week to your government as interest payments for our debts"
So Mr Gordon Brown is now trying to write off all the debt held by the developing countries.
And this will be decided in the next G8 conference in Edinburgh.
During the service, we all signed a letter to Mr Blair, to persuade him to Gordon Browns plans.
Made me think a lot about wealth and poverty today.
