仕事を５時半で切り上げ、６時からクイーン・メリー・カレッジで今日からの、フォトグラフィーのクラスに出席した。
１２人の小さなクラス。
定年後のおじいちゃんや、写真家になるという野望を抱いた若者、
世界の山々の写真を撮り歩くのが趣味だというコンサルタントなどなど色々な人に出会った。
来年の５月が提出期限という課題２つと、５時間の試験１つで評価される。
今日のクラスに参加して、自分がいかにフォトグラフィーという分野を狭く見ていたか思い知らされた。
フォトグラフィーは光によるアートで、カメラがなくてもいいんだ。
カラーでも、白黒でも、デジタルでもフィルムでも、紙でも木でも、スキャンしてもコピーしても、
「最終的なイメージがよければ」それは立派なフォトグラフィーなんだ。
だから、課題もなんでもありのフリースタイルだ。
枠組みに縛られないで、もっとイマジネーションを使わなくちゃだめなんだ。
なんだかわくわくしてきた。

I called it a day at 5:30 and dashed back home, picked up my camera and
went to the Queen Mary's College to attend the photography class, which finally started from today.
There were 12 students; a retired old man who's eager to improve his photography skills,
an ambitious young man who is seriously thinking about starting a career in photography, an consultant
who loves travelling around the world and taking photos of the mountains, all sorts of interesting people.
The method of assessment was really interesting.
We basically have to hand in two pieces of coursework, which are due next year May, and there'll be one 5 hour exam.
Having done this first class, I realised how narrow my view on photography was.
'Image that's what matters', as said by Ron, the teacher,
you don't even need a camera to express yourself in photography.
A photography is an art of light, thus it could be scanned, photocopied, colour or black&white, ditigal or film, paper or wood or curtain, anything!
I have to try to get myself out of this small box and start using my imagination.
I'm so excited.
