映画「炎のランナー」で有名なエリック・リデルの人生を描いた、
"Pure Gold"という伝記を読んだ（David McCasland著）。
エリック・リデルは1924年のパリ・オリンピックに出場し、
最も優勝の期待されていた100m走の決勝が日曜日に行われることが分かっていたため、
クリスチャンである彼の信仰に基づき、レースを辞退した。
しかし、全く注目のされていなかった400m走で見事金メダルを取得したのだ。
「炎のランナー」では、そこまでがフォーカスされているが、
彼の本当のレースは、彼が中国へ宣教師として遣わされる所から始まる。
第二次世界大戦の最中、彼は自らの命を中国の人々に捧げた。
キリストの愛を実践し、証をした。
1945年2月21日、彼は日本軍の収容所で43歳の短い人生を終える。
『「隣り人を愛し、敵を憎め」と言われていたことは、
あなたがたの聞いているところである。しかし、わたしはあなたがたに言う。
敵を愛し、迫害する者のために祈れ。
こうして、天にいますあなたがたの父の子となるためである。
天の父は、悪い者の上にも良い者の上にも、太陽をのぼらせ、
正しい者にも正しくない者にも、雨を降らして下さるからである。』
マタイ5:43-45
彼はこれを実践したのだ！
I read a book called "Pure Gold" by David McCasland,
which features a life of Eric Liddell, who is famous by the film "Chariots of Fire".
While the film focuses on his life as a runner in the Olympics,
his real race starts after he goes to China as a missionary.
He truly offered his life to Christ by serving the people in China.
He truly lived by the words in the bible and testified the love of Christ.
He died on February 21, 1945 in a Japanese internment camp, at the young age of 43.
"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy'.
But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil
and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous.
Matthew 5v43-45
That's how he lived.
