明日引越しだというのにまだ何もやっていない。
午後２時半からバイト。今日一週目の給料が支払われた。なんとこのサブちゃん、週払い且つ現金払いなのだ。
休憩時間にいくら稼いだか数えてみたところ、どう計算しても３時間ほど分の給料が支払われていない。ベスに
相談してみた所、「そんなこたーしょっちゅうだよ、ちゃんと言ったほうがいいよ」だって。明日にでも聞いてみるこ
とにするか。
今日は久しぶりに閉店までベスと仕事。午後６時過ぎになるとかなり暇になるので、暇つぶしに色々なことを話
した。なんとこのベス、見かけによらずケーキ職人の資格を持っているらしい。ちゃんと４年間ほど弟子入り修行
をし、イギリスに来る前は結構稼いでいたらしい。そのためか、サブウェイの安い給料では不満があるらしく最近
新しい仕事を探しているとのこと。
実はこのサブウェイ、最近どんどんと人が辞めて言っている。僕が入ったのが約３週間前だが、すでに４人も辞め
ており、明日開店当時から働いていたベテランが一人辞め、二週間後に更にベテランが一人辞めることになって
いるのだ。下手をすると、入店１ヶ月にして僕が一二を争う経験者となってしまうことになる。
こんなんでは店自体が潰れかねない。笑ってられないな！
I'm moving tomorrow but I haven't done anything!
Work from 2:30 till close. This subway pays wages weekly and finally today I got the first week's wages. But,
however I calculated, there's about 3 hours worth of wages missing which I was very upset about. I
consulted Beth and said 'oh, it's common, they always make mistakes, you should just say it man' which
relieved me a little. I'll just ask tomorrow how they done the arithmetics.
Today I was working with Beth and as there's hardly anyone come in the shop after 6'oclcck, I was mainly
chatting with Beth, well, only sixty percent of the times. She surprised me by telling me that she is a
qualified pastry chef and was in apprenticeship for 4 years in Australia and was earning lots and lots before
she came to Britain. And that is why she is dissatisfied with this job and that she's looking for job as a chef.
I noticed that there's a lot of people dissatisfied with this shop, in fact, since I started working three weeks
ago, four people has already left the shop either being fired or voluntarily, and 2 more experienced ones are
quitting tomorrow and in coming two weeks. It has such a high labour turnover that I'm already finding myself
moving up the hierachy, I'll be first or the second experienced worker in a month or something.
There's nothing to be happy about it though, as if the shop itself go bankrupt which I'm scared it might happen,
no point in moving up the ladder, you just lose your job!
