チームの皆と昼、クリスマス・ランチを近くのパブまで食べにいった。
こうして、みんなで昼飯が食べれるのは意外と珍しいことだ。
色々とメニューは選べたけれど、僕はイギリスの伝統的なクリスマス・ランチを注文した。
即ち、ロースト・ターキーとデザートにはクリスマス・プディングだ。
しかし、ロブによると、ロースト・ターキーというものは、実は英国の伝統的なクリスマス料理ではないらしい。
彼いわく、昔はホロホロチョウの中に七面鳥を詰め、七面鳥の中にさらにカモを詰めた料理だったらしい。
いや待てよ、七面鳥の中にホロホロチョウを詰め、その中にカモを入れるんだったけかな。
それとも、七面鳥とホロホロチョウを両方カモに詰めるんだったか。いやそれは無理だ。
いや、カモじゃなくてガチョウだったっけ？そもそもホロホロチョウってなんだよ。
まあいいや、ロブはどうせスペイン人だから、彼のことは信用ならない。
さあ、明日からの旅行の準備をしなくちゃ。
Went out to have Christmas lunch with the team to a nearby pub.
It is quite rare that all of us can have lunch together like this.
We had various choices over our meal; I chose the traditional roast turkey, and Christmas pudding for dessert.
However, according to Rob , roast turkey is not a traditional English Christmas meal.
He says, in the old days, they used to stuff guinea fowl into turkey which itself was stuffed with a duck.
Or wait a minute, was it stuffing turkey into guinea fowl, which is stuffed with duck?
Or could be stuffing turkey and guinea fowl into duck, no, that's impossible.
Or was it a goose instead of a duck?
Well, Rob is Spanish so I don't trust him anyway.
Right, I need to start packing now for my trip.
