朝教会に着くと、教会の正面玄関が閉まっていた。
３０分遅刻したから、閉めちゃったのかな？と思い、裏に回ると
「まだだれもきていないわよ」とある教会の人が教えてくれた。
あれ、そんなことはないと思い、時計をみると
あれ？なんでまだ１０時なんだ？家を出たときは確かに９時５０分だったのに、１０分でここに辿り着ける訳がない。
失われた一時間は何処へ？
よく考えてみると、腕時計の時間は直したのだが、
携帯の時間がまだ大陸時間になっていて、それの目覚ましで目がさめたから、勘違いしていたらしかった。
まったく時間というものはいかに人間が作りあげた主観的なものか。
昼過ぎに、Izumiさんが部屋にきた。
彼女は現在インターンシップを探している。
ぜひ頑張っていただきた。
I went to chuch in the morning.
But when I arrived, the front door was closed.
I thought, maybe they've locked the door because I was late.
I went around the back entrance and met this lady who told me
'nobody's here yet'
I thought, that cannot be. I looked at my watch and it read... 10 oclock.
But why that cannot be I thought, I left my room at 9:50. Surely it took me more than 10 minutes to get here.
The lost hour (I should write a book with this title).
Then I realised that the time on my mobile was still the Continental Europe time (i.e. one hour forward) and my mobile happens to be my alarm clock.
And the time on my watch is the correct UK time.
I thought how interesting and how subjective the concept of time. It's just a human invention!
I met Izumi in the afternoon. She's still looking for a placement job.
I hope she can find one soon.
