マイクはフランクフルトまで毎朝車で通勤するので、今日はフランクフルトまで彼の車に乗っけていってもらった。
家を６時４５分に出る。
アウトバーンは素晴らしい。スピード制限がないため事故の発生率が多いと思いがちだが
皆車線のルールをきちんと守っているので、そんなことはないらしい。
マイクは通常１５０キロぐらいで走るが、それでもビュンビュンと左の車線の車が追い越していく。
２００キロは当たり前の世界だ。
Thursday
Mike commutes by car into Frankfurt every morning, so he gave me a lift this morning to the city.
Autobahns are wonderful.
I thought the accident rate is quite high, there being no speed limit,
but because drivers have good lane disciplines, there is not usually a problem.
Mike usually does about 150km, which is fast enough, but the cars on the left lanes overtake us by going more than 200km/h, which amazed me.
マイクの会社のある街の北部で降ろしてもらい、そこから電車にのって街の中心に向かう。
フランクフルトの中心には、高層ビルがたくさん立ち並んでいる（主に銀行関連）。
ヨーロッパ中央銀行もフランクフルトにある（上の写真）。
Mike dropped me off at the north of the city, where he works, and from here I took a train into the city centre.
There are many skyscrapers standing in the centre of the city, most of them are banks.
European Central Bank (as shown above) is also in Frankfurt.
まだ朝早かったので、どこも開いていない。
１０時まで写真を撮りながらぶらぶらとする。
Since it was still early in the morning (Mike works from 7:30 or something), not many shops were open,
so I just walked around the city until 10:00, taking photographs here and there.
１０時の開園と同時に、街の北にある植物公園に入ってみた。
ここの温室植物園は素晴らしい。
中でも、サボテンの温室には驚かされた。
I went to the Palm Garden as the gate opened at 10:00.
There were so many green houses, I particularly liked the cactus house.
植物園を昼過ぎに出て、そこから地下鉄でマイン川沿いに建てられた、Stadelschel美術館まで行く。
なかなか見ごたえのある美術館でした。
I got out of the botanic garden before 12, and took the underground to the Stadelsches Kunstinstitut, built along the river Main.
It was a pretty good museum, some good paintings by Max Liebermann.
美術館からマイン川を渡り、街の中心まで歩いた。
マーケットでフランクフルトを買って食べた。
フランクフルトでフランクフルトを食べたぞお！
うまかったあ。
I got out of the museum, crossed the river and walked through the main shopping street.
I bought this sausage in the market, it was really nice.
German sausages have crispy textures and are very nice.
デパートのビルの屋上に上がることができたので、そこからフランクフルトの街を一望した。
I went up on the roof of a department store building; the view was spectacular from here.
マイクが仕事を４時半に終え、車で一緒にヴァイタスタッドまで帰る。
途中、マイクが家のすぐ近くにあるセッグミュラーという家具屋さんに連れて行ってくれた。
ここのセッグミュラーは巨大だ、ドイツで一番おおきな家具屋らしい。
中は本当に、開いた口がふさがらないほど、でかかった。
Mike finished his work at 4:30 and we went back to Weiterstadt.
On our way back, Mike took me to this furniture store called Segmuller.
The one in Weiterstadt is apparently the biggest furniture store in whole of Germany.
It was quite impressive.
夕方６時からマイクの教会の友達とサッカーをした。
なかなか充実した一日でした。
From six, we played football with Mike and his church friends.
We had a good fun indeed.
