今週は早かったな。
世界で２番目の大金持ち、ウォレン・バフェットが、世界で一番の金持ちベルゲイツによって設立された
寄付団体に、3700億ドル寄付したという記事を読んだ。
これによって、総基金は6000億ドル、世界最大の寄付団体となった(その前はIKEAだというから面白い）。
これはすごい。
ビルゲイツはやはり、偉いと思う。何せ彼はまだ５０歳そこそこだ。
人間は欲深い生き物だから、富が膨らむほど、寄付をするのは難しくなる。
まあ、とはいてもビルゲイツはまだ懐に5000億ドル持っているというから、そこまで感心するする必要もない。
ウォレン・バフェットはもう年寄りのおじいさんだから、お金の有効な使い道を探していたと思ってしまう。
しかし彼は投資家だから、お金の有効な使い道を鋭い目で見分けるにちがいない。
どこかの政府のばらまき援助とは違う。
製薬会社が一つの薬を開発するのに、やく100億ドルかかるというから、6000億ドルあれば、
エイズなど難病の薬の開発が飛躍的に進むに違いない。
ビルゲイツはマイクロソフトを引退して、これからは寄付活動に専念するらしい。
僕も、最終的には、やはり世の中の困っている人を助ける仕事がしたいなあ。

This week has gone by so quickly.
I was reading this article about Warren Buffet, the world's second richest man, donating $37 billion to the
charity founded by the world's richest man, Bill Gates, creating the world's biggest charity worth $60 billion.
I was very impressed when Bill Gates founded the charity, as he's only like 50 or something, so must have had such a strong commitment.
I'm impressed because from my own experience, the richer you become, paradoxically, the more difficult it becomes to give, as humans are a greedy.
Having said that, Bill Gates still has some $50 billion in his pocket, so I must not praise his too much.
But Warren Buffet is already an old man, so you tend to think that he must have been searching for some means to use his extra cash for good cause,
but whatever the reasons, it's good that Warren Buffet gets involved in charity, as he's an investor, so he knows where to put his money.
Given that it cost about $1 billion to develop a drug, with $60 billion they can dicover some serious drug, like for treatment of AIDS.
Apprantly, Bill Gates is resigning from Microsoft and from now on will be working for his foundation on a full time basis.
In the ultimate future, I want to work for an organisation to help people suffering in the world.
