JPN

Woke up at seven, took a shower, had breakfast and left the house a quarter to eight.

Caught the 8:30 train to Heidelberg.

It takes only an hour or so from Frankfurt to Heidelberg.

Arriving at 9:38, the first place I went to was on top of this hill, where you have a spectacular view of the town.

To climb the hill, you go through a narrow path called Philosophenweg (Philosopher's Way).

It takes only about half an hour.

And the when you reach the top, you have this beautiful view of the whole city in front of you.

You can see the castle, the Karl-Theodor Brucke (the bridge) crossing over the river Neckar and the bell tower of the church.

If you walk along the hill to the west, there's a small garden called the Philosopher's Garden.

I had a bit of rest in this garden.

I must say that town of Heidelburg is quite touristic, which you can tell from a lot of Japanese signs on the shops.

The below signs says "Ice cream helllo".

Although it was a weekday, the streets were full of people.

I bought a baguette with olives inside, I ate the whole loaf and kind of made me sick.

I bought a bottle of wine for Kevin in one of the shops along this street.

Heiliggeistkirche (the Church of the Holdy Spirit) is at the centre of the town, which adds taste in the city landscape.

At this time, I was really coming short of money so there wasn't anything I can do but to walk around and take photos.

However, I did go to the castle.

The construciton of this castle began in the 13th Century, but was heavily destroyed during the Thirty Years' in the 17th Century.

So a lot of the walls have been restored, otherwise, left as it were as ruins.

There was the Deutches Apotheken museum (chemistry lab museum) in the east wall of the castle.

It had a display of medival chemisty labs and the showed the development of medicines.

Apparently, Germany's first university was built in Heidelberg in 1386,

so the town has a somewhat academic atmosphere (like Cambridge).

I enjoyed walking around this town, it was really pretty.

The sky was starting to open up, clouds drifting away, so I decided to walk the Philosopher's Way again to the top of the hill.

River Neckar.

The bridge is called Karl Theodor Brucke, named after the architect of this bridge.

But the brige, which was originally in the late 18th century was destroyed during WWII, and was later rebuilt.

I really fell in love with the view from this place, I don't know how many photos I took.

I took the 17:20 train back to Darmstadt.

As last week, I played football again with Mike and with his friends for two hours, we had a good fun.

It was a wonderful day.
